The 2024 edition of the iconic 1000 Miglia, often referred to as “The Most Beautiful Race In The World,” commenced today at 12:30 pm from the Viale Venezia platform.
A brief thunderstorm initially threatened the start, but just before the first cars, the O.M.’s, were set to begin, the rain lightened, adding to the quintessential atmosphere with the scent of engines in the air.

A festive crowd gathered early in the center of Brescia, eagerly awaiting the spectacle of over 400 vintage cars built between 1927 and 1957. The drivers and their navigators are set to traverse more than 2200 kilometers over the next five days, challenging themselves in 144 Time Trials, 8 Average Trials, 30 Passage Controls, and 21 Time Controls.
“The wait before the race is always nerve-wracking,” said Andrea Vesco, aiming for his fourth consecutive victory, from the cockpit of his 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C SS Spider Zagato. “Let’s hope it doesn’t keep raining so we can pull down the top, but in any case, once we get going, I hope we settle into the race well as always.”
Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli, last year’s runners-up and first pursuers of the Vesco-Salvinelli duo, shared their excitement: “Despite the rain, the atmosphere is beautiful. We look forward to a great result.”
After the start, the cars headed to Brescia Castle for the first Time Trials, before departing the city with a Passage Control and Village Parade in Piazza Vittoria.
The convoy then drove through the vineyards and hills of Franciacorta, rejoining the Ferrari Tribute cars from Iseo. Six consecutive Time Trials followed in Franciacorta, with a Passage Control at Palazzolo sull’Oglio, near Europe’s highest round bell tower, leading into Bergamo territory.
The 1000 Miglia promises a thrilling journey, combining the elegance of vintage automobiles with the competitive spirit of motorsport.
